Encouraging and Supporting Publicly Engaged Philosophical Research and Practices

1)      In your experience and observations, do you see any links between the demographic diversification of philosophy and the growth, however modest, of publicly engaged work?  Might the promotion and support of publicly engaged philosophical work itself assist in the diversification of the profession?  (or, for those panelists in other disciplines, have you observed analogous trends in your own disciplines?)

2)      In what senses is the diversification of the discipline of philosophy necessary if we are to promote and support more publicly engaged philosophy and gain credibility in various public realms?
