I am a PhD candidate in the Department of Philosophy at Vanderbilt University researching the ethics of blame and self-blame. My dissertation argues that by examining self-blame, we learn something distinctive about the value and nature of blame as such. In the future, my research will focus on moral emotions broadly and the phenomenology of pain, specifically the limitations of the language currently used to describe experiences of chronic pain and chronic illness. For the past three years, I have been a member of a philosophy and social justice weekly reading group with men on death row in Nashville.
