Interest in public philosophy? Please be as SPECIFIC AS YOU CAN. Members who answer "yes" or "a lot" will not be approved.
I am interested in examining how we live under inherited normative structures of language and gender. How can the exclusions and violence of those structures be revealed, explored, challenged, and perhaps evolved, even as I, myself, engage in their repetition?

Thanks for joining the Public Philosophy Network (PPN)!  We hope that you find ways to make the site helpful and supportive of your work and interests.

While we welcome all members interested in public philosophy, the particular aim of this site is to help develop and support collaborative projects that include philosophers as partners in research and/or social action projects that in some way contribute a public good and/or further public discussion and deliberation.  If you have questions about the PPN or our aims, please see the report on the founding of the Network here: http://publicphilosophynetwork.ning.com/page/founding-report and read through the general discussion forums.

As we build up the site, we are counting on our members to help us make it a success. We strongly encourage you to upload a photo on your profile pages and to complete your profile so that other members with similar interests can network with you.  You can set privacy settings to control who has access to your page and who sends you e-mail.  For directions on this, click here.   Having a robust and fairly accessible profile allows you to use this site to find other philosophers and collaborators for publicly engaged philosophy projects.

There are two ways to become actively involved on the PPN on-line network:  1) The affinity groups provide members with the opportunity to collaborate around a particular issue within public philosophy.  2) The general forums on the main page are intended to foster “metadiscussions” on issues in public philosophy that cut across specific issues—these discussions may focus on practical or philosophical concerns.   If your interests aren’t yet represented, you can also start an affinity group or add a thread to a general discussion forum.

As we raise more funds, we will be adding new collaborative research tools specific to our work and goals that are not available on facebook and other networking sites.  If you wish to help support this project, please click on the “support” tab on our homepage.

If you have general questions about the site or its functionality, please post a question on the membership support forum: http://publicphilosophynetwork.ning.com/forum/categories/member-support/listForCategory
