- Interest in public philosophy? Please be as SPECIFIC AS YOU CAN. Members who answer "yes" or "a lot" will not be approved.
- Very strong belief that philosophy belongs in "the street" and that philosophers should be engaged with public policy matters, using their skills and training to help shape policy as well as the public culture.
Sponsor of the David E. McClean Prize at the New School for Social Research for best essay on the subject "Philosophy and Commerce." The award is $4,000.00 per year, through 2013. Students must be philosophy Ph.D. students or candidates. Papers must be written with a focus on policy, not merely theory. The purpose is to stimulate thought on the ways philosophical studies can become more relevant to the vast landscape of human social intercourse known as commerce - a landscape virtually ignored by most philosophers. (Open to New School students only.)
