Interest in public philosophy? Please be as SPECIFIC AS YOU CAN. Members who answer "yes" or "a lot" will not be approved.
I have an MA in Philosophy from California Institute of Integral Studies , and my interest in philosophy has always been focused on applied philosophy, or practical philosophy. I simply want us (citizens) to be thinking deeply together about what we do collectively--making the links between shared ethics and our public decisions and actions... I have found that permaculture gives me a good template for planting philosophical insights into the ground, so to speak. Therefore, I am also a permaculture teacher. I am a philosopher of sustainability, a deep-thinking activist who is interested in changing entire systems of thought, not just particular policies. Or to put it in Gandhi's terms, I am a practical idealist. I have been involved in movements to stop the blanket spraying of pesticides in our communities, and I recently was a co-organizer of the event "Techno-Utopianism and the Fate of the Earth" at Cooper Union in New York City. (Among our speakers were Bill McKibben, Vandana Shiva, Jerry Mander, etc.)
