PhD focus is ICT ethics, specifically threats to human autonomy from emerging ICT's.
Also - President, Irish Chapter, Internet Society, seeking to promote understanding of internet issues.
Current research focus on smart cities as encompassing ICT environment.
Previous background as columnist/writer on digital marketing, trying to promote ethical online marketing - such articles were guarranteed to get lowest readership.
Teach ICT ethics in computer science courses at MSc and undergrad level.
Working in internet since 1988. Concerned that its becoming dominated by monopolies which undermine what makes it a public good. Try to critique from both capitalist and marxist perspectives.
Worried that IP regulations, consumer profiling, technology silos, software-as-a-service and naive technological determinism are moving us into a state of digital feudalism. The more I research, the worse it looks.
